The colourful stone houses of Quebec’s old port on the St Laurent River lie beneath the Chateau Frontenac on the clifftop. Johnston Canyon is a picturesque rocky cleft just north of Banff in the Canadian Rockies of Alberta. A walking track cut into the canyon’s walls leads to a waterfall, best viewed from a small cavern. The spring snows are melting and new growth on the fir trees is bright green against the dark rocks.
