Another ink and watercolour view of the narrow gauge steam engine which hauls open cars filled with laughing children through the Dandenong Ranges east of Melbourne. I should explain that a “billy” is a metal pot with a handle, used mainly to boil water over a campfire. Loose leaf tea may be added, and the billy full of boiling water swung in a vertical circle at arm’s length to mix the contents.
Original painting by Dai Wynn in ink and watercolours on 300GSM paper. 290mm X 210mm (12″ X 8″ approximately).

Puffing Billy regularly plies the 2 foot gauge track through the hills east of Melbourne with its complement of children who delight in dangling their feet through the open sided wagons. The shrill whistle can be heard echoing through the eucalyptus shrouded hills as it wheezes slowly from Belgrave to Gembrook.

The colourful stone houses of Quebec’s old port on the St Laurent River lie beneath the Chateau Frontenac on the clifftop. This delightful tourist precinct is accessed via a funicular at the end of this cobbled street. Most of the younger citizens of this French Canadian province are completely bilingual.
