Akaroa Aquamarine

Not an approaching storm, but late afternoon sea mists rolling in from the Pacific Ocean at the entrance to Akaroa Harbour on the Banks Peninsula in New Zealand’s South Island. I was amazed at the wonderful shades of turquoise and aquamarine, interspersed with mauve, purple, blue and green of the shallows, sand banks and reefs. The setting sun highlights the dry grass on the harbour heads. Oil painting by Dai Wynn on canvas panel. 20.3 cm high by 25.4 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately. (8 inches by 10 inches).

Fishing Boats in Lakes Entrance, Gippsland, Victoria

Oil painting by Dai Wynn of fishing boats at the wharf in Lakes Entrance, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. This is a much simplified composition which leaves out the large, modern commercial trawlers, covered in various contrivances and paraphernalia, docked on the other side of the depicted smaller, colourful craft. Even then, I have not painted in much of the radio, radar and navigation equipment festooning the masts.

Sunrise over French Bay, Akaroa

Oil painting by Dai Wynn of Daly’s Pier on French Bay, Akaroa, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. As the early morning sun rises above the rim of the ancient volcanic crater, it lights the hills to the west of Akaroa Harbour. The low hills above Wainui are still in deep shade. The tranquil harbour waters are ruffled by the slightest breeze. A perfect day lies ahead. Painted on canvas panel. 20.3 cm high by 25.4 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately.
