Akaroa Aquamarine

Not an approaching storm, but late afternoon sea mists rolling in from the Pacific Ocean at the entrance to Akaroa Harbour on the Banks Peninsula in New Zealand’s South Island. I was amazed at the wonderful shades of turquoise and aquamarine, interspersed with mauve, purple, blue and green of the shallows, sand banks and reefs. The setting sun highlights the dry grass on the harbour heads. Oil painting by Dai Wynn on canvas panel. 20.3 cm high by 25.4 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately. (8 inches by 10 inches).

Afternoon in the Darebin Wetlands

Late afternoon sunshine blushes the gum trees around a duck pond in the Darebin Wetlands, Alphington, east of Melbourne. This is where my grand-daughter loves to feed the ducks who eagerly flock to the water’s edge immediately they spy her coming with her little tub of oats. Oil painting by Dai Wynn in an impressionist style. Painted on canvas panel. 25.4 cm high by 20.3 com wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately. (10 inches by 8 inches).

Fishing Boats in Lakes Entrance, Gippsland, Victoria

Oil painting by Dai Wynn of fishing boats at the wharf in Lakes Entrance, Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. This is a much simplified composition which leaves out the large, modern commercial trawlers, covered in various contrivances and paraphernalia, docked on the other side of the depicted smaller, colourful craft. Even then, I have not painted in much of the radio, radar and navigation equipment festooning the masts.

Sunrise over French Bay, Akaroa

Oil painting by Dai Wynn of Daly’s Pier on French Bay, Akaroa, Banks Peninsula, New Zealand. As the early morning sun rises above the rim of the ancient volcanic crater, it lights the hills to the west of Akaroa Harbour. The low hills above Wainui are still in deep shade. The tranquil harbour waters are ruffled by the slightest breeze. A perfect day lies ahead. Painted on canvas panel. 20.3 cm high by 25.4 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately.

Limeuil Wheelbarrow, France

As I was painting this view of ancient houses down the hill of Rue du Port in Limeuil, France, I noticed a new and very shiny wheelbarrow at the centre of my composition. I suspect many properties are now holiday houses for let, but I was pleased to see that they were well tended. Oil painting by Dai Wynn on canvas panel. 25.4 cm high by 20.3 cm wide by 0.3 cm deep approximately.
